About This Item

New York and [Iron Bridge, Ontario, Canada], 1917. [7] manuscript pages in all. 4tos. 5 Items comprising a Typed Letter Signed, a Typed Letter (retained copy), two misc. typed manuscripts, and one blueprint map (13 x 22¼ inches). Folds; very good.

Small group of letters, papers, and a map concerning the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates located in Ontario's Serpent River Valley near Lake Huron.

Two letters, one written by and a retained copy of a letter sent to mining executive Frank F. Peard, discuss gold and copper ore prospects in several of the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates' mines.

Peard, Vice-President and General Manager of the Union Metals Corp. of Arizona writes:

"For nearly a year I have been investigating the copper properties...north of Lake Huron. I had, for months, an engineer working in this territory - George E. Bent... He opened up the great Le roi mines in British Columbia and was, for years, associated with the Rothschilds of London, in the development of their properties in Africa and in India. Mr. Bent's opinion, as expressed to me, is that this copper country in Ontario is going to be a second Butte."

Accompanying the typed letter signed is a retained typed copy of a letter by Bent to Peard offering upbeat ore analysis and development recommendations for four mining claims owned by the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates.

Bent's letter mentions a "statement" on these claims by Robert W. Armstrong and R.A. Teasdale. A copy of this mining statement is included here. It analyzes in detail the gold and copper ore potentials of seven mines owned by the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates.

Accompanying the letters and statement is a blueprint map showing the location of the claims owned by the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates near Lake Huron.

Rounding out the group is a Memorandum proposing the incorporation of the Canadian Gold and Copper Estates. A Board of Directors is proposed with a majority of them to be Canadians and with field management to be supervised by George E. Bent.
