White, Stokes, & Allen, 1886. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" Tall (thin). Slight wear to extremities (rubbing; chiefly to spine edges and corners); slight rubbing and browning to covers (leather over boards; chiefly to edges); front free endpaper detached (but present, with stub at spine edge); few previous owner's pencil underscorings (chiefly to titles throughout); slight internal browning (chiefly to edges). vi, 163, [1] pages. First book of the so-called 'First Poet Laureate of Alabama', containing 85 poems in all; includes several paeans to ladies (first names given only), as well as apostrophizations of his native territory and its flora and fauna. Bound in 3/4 dark red calf over light brown marbled boards, gilt-stamped and decorated spine, matching marbled endpapers, t.e.g., all edges trimmed. Rare in any condition.Title Vignette (red/white); Title Page (red).
