Crichton's only book under this pseudonym and his first book in hardcover, preceded by three paperback originals under his "John Lange" pseudonym. A medical thriller, the novel was the source of the 1972 film "The Carey Treatment", directed by Blake Edwards. A scarce book in either the British or American (New American Library, 1968) editions. It won an Edgar for Best First Novel.; Octavo .
