About This Item

Ann Arbor, MI: The Michigan Committee of Americans for Poland, 1945-01-01. Paperback. Very Good/in wraps. Softcover, (Retail copy, NOT X-library) First Edition 1945 The Michigan Committee of Americans for Poland 92 pages. Very Good, in dark brown wraps with tan titles. Minor shelf/edge wear to covers, a touch of darkening to edges of the rear panel - map endpapers. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and crisp with a touch of age-toning to the edges. Author takes a look at how the Soviet Union of 1945 will treat Eastern Europe thru the lens of its treatment of Poland. A severe indictment of the policies of the Soviet union towards Poland (circa 1945) which was refreshing at the time of publication and foretelling of the future to come. Nor are The Soviet Union's allies, the United State and Great Britain, excused from responsibility for the plight of present day Poland. There is no attempt to survey the long history of Poland, the previous partitions and the struggles for independence. The entire study is confined to the period since 1918, with the bulk of it devoted to the effects on Poland of the machinations of the leading powers, Axis and United Nations, since 1939. Failure of Russia, England, and the United States to live up to their guarantees of territorial integrity of Poland; the rape of Poland at Yalta; the failure to seat representatives of the Polish Goverment-in-Exile at the San Fransisco Conference; and other abuses come in for outraged condemnation by the writer. Numerous quotations from Soviet, American, British and Polish Newspapers and documents in substantiation of the charges made. The author, having lived in Poland for seventeen years (1922-1939), and having come to know the people and their neighbors well, has a deep affection for the country and profound sympathy for its condition. Only 92 pages but very well done. This is NOT an Ex-library copy. This is a retail copy. Very Scarce and Highly Recommended. LOC SSS-24
