About This Item
11 1/2" w X 6 13/16" h X 1 1/4" d Album in exceptional condition
48 black leaves/96 pages, all present, all cleanly attached to lace binding; latch button clean and operational. Suede leather wraparound cover, embossed with "Casper, Wyo." in Gothic text, with color illustrations of a Native Chief and an oil derrick, also embossed. The back cover is thin and loose, with small chunks missing; the leading edge of the front cover is no longer attached to the cloth lining of the inner cover.
Wonderfully evocative of the carefree '20s, the photos feature young adults in full jazz-age regalia - men in tailored suits and caps, women in flapper dresses and cloches - frolicking in various landscapes: mountain hikes, lakeside romps, hunting trips, country drives. Various automobiles are pictured, boats too, and a page featuring a biplane, though not in flight. In the background, gas stations, clothing shops, billboards of the time.
Very few of the photos are annotated - some name those pictured ("Billy and Mother"), while others are breezy ("love me, love my dog") - much of the cursive has faded. Some of the flappers appear in their bloomers and hose - rather risqué but nothing too explicit - and showing off their negligées and teddies.
This album was clearly assembled with a great deal of attention and love for the lifestyle depicted.
259 photos, various sizes; 26 photos missing.
