About This Item
11.25 x 7.5" black string-bound album with "Photographs" written in gold. The front cover actually serves as a pocket with a snap button closure; inside the pocket is an envelope which appears to be addressed to "Miss K. B. Arnett" that is packed full of negatives. The rest of the album houses around 170 black and white photos from 1916-1921 which largely feature a cat, local landscape and houses, including the Orchard House, Curtis House, Hop Brook, Atton's cornfield, and Shaker Pond. The exact location of these photographs is not exactly known, but appears to be the New England coast. Photographs measure between 1.75 x 2.5" and 6.25 x 4.5" and are glued to the pages. Captions identify locations and people, usually by first name; individuals identified by full name include Katharine Tarson, Ann K. Zaroica, and Kalo Kaolrikoff. One very interesting page contains silhouettes of the people who presumably worked or lived in or near Orchard House; the silhouettes are picked out in white against the black page. Included are silhouettes of two cats, including a gorgeous white cat named Pushkin who is the main star of the album. The corners of the back pages of the album appear to have been chewed through, but otherwise the album is in good shape.
