About This Item

Littlehampton Book Services Ltd. Very Good/Very Good. 1985. Hard Cover. Sm 4to 0713713739 Dust jacket complete, unclipped, tiny label on front. . Original cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks. 160 pages clean and tight. Dimensions: 24.6 x 19.4 x 2.2 cm. Among the very many books on the subject of domestic cats there is very little information to be found on cat shows. Yet there are many local and national shows which provide much entertainment. Whether you own a 'pet class' cat of doubtful lineage, or a pedigree paragon, cat showing can be an enjoyable and rewarding pastime. This book is a practical guide to how to look after your cat, prepare and enter it for shows, and describes what will be expected of it by the judges. Major features of the book include useful pictures showing care of the cat, many photographs of pedigree cats and delightful early illustrations of cats and shows. It also gives a history of cats and cat showing, describing the dedication of the earliest cat fanciers and the problems encountered by the organisers of the first shows. It also looks at the appeal of the cat and its resultant place in commerce. There is a chapter on veterinary care and problems by James Allcock. Grace Pond has been Show Organiser of the UK National Cat Club Show, the largest cat show in the world, for 30 years, and is ideally placed to write this guide to showing. She has written many books on cats, has judged cats in the USA, Australia, Tasmania, South Africa, Zimbabwe and most European countries, and is President of many cat clubs. She was show manager for the Longhaired Cat Club for many years, and is on the executive of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy. Her particular interest in longhairs is complemented by Mary Dunnill's experience with shorthairs. She has served as Honorary Secretary of the Siamese Cat Club, Chairman (and delegate to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) of the Havana, Foreign and Oriental Cat Association, President of both the Tabbypoint Siamese and Progressive Cat Breeders Club and the Foreign White Fanciers Association, and Vice President of the Sealpoint Siamese Cat Club. She has been Show Manager of the Siamese Cat Club and of the Shorthair Section of the National Cat Club Show. .
