About This Item

London: Victoria and Albert Museum, 1972. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 9 1/2" x 7 1/8". 207 pages, illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. Catalogues the major pieces of Adam period (1760-1800) furniture held either at the Victoria and Albert Museum, or at Osterley Park (which comes under the jurisdiction of the Victoria and Albert Museum). The most important group of furniture catalogued here was designed by Adam, or under his supervision, between 1767 and 1779 for the State Rooms at Osterley Park. This is followed by other items with which Adam was directly concerned, and a further section devoted to other grand pieces closely related to Adam's work. The remainder of the catalogue is mainly devoted to furniture of the type commonly known as 'Hepplewhite', in which the style used by Adam for his State Rooms has been modified and simplified for a wider market. Bibliography. Card covers, delaminating slightly at lower rear corner. Cancelled label for decorative and fine arts society on front free endpaper, otherwise a very good copy..
