About This Item

London: Yale University Press, 1971. First edition. Cloth. Fine. 14" by 11". None. A fine, three volume study on the Italian printmaker and painter Parmigianino. Written by the British art historian Arthur E Popham. Arthur E Popham was a specialist in Italian art. He worked at the British museum and become renowned for his catalogue work. This catalogue of Parmigianino is a beautifully illustrated work, with volumes II and III comprising of 474 plates total. Collated, complete. Scarce to have all three volumes together. With the original slipcase. Volume I has a brief exploration into Parmigianio's life and how this influenced his art. This catalogue is arranged in two groups, his public and private collections. Parmigianino was an Italian Mannerist painter and printmaker. He is often characterised by a 'refined sensuality' and often elongation of forms and includes 'Vision of Saint Jerome'. Parmigianino remains the best known artist of the first generation whose whole careers fall into the Mannerist period. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With original slipcase. Externally, excellent. With minor shelfwear to the extremities. Slipcase is also very smart. Light rubbing and small loss to the paper covering to the slipcase. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Fine
