About This Item

Newburgh: Journal Printing House and Book-Bindery, 1890. Original edition. Good. 23 cm; 103 pages. Illustrated. Original cloth, titled in gilt. Worn along upper joint, with some wear to spine ends. Last leaf loose but present. Old gift inscription on front free endpaper, with donor and recipient whited out. Ownership stamp of Austin Conklin Jr. on lower pastedown.

The inscription revealed under the white-out is to Sloatsburg native Austin Conklin, Jr. from Newburgh's Henry M. Kennedy. Conklin, descendant of a large clan of Lower Hudson Valley settlers of that name, survived service in World War I and died at age 85 in 1970.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio

Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
