The Catcher in the Rye- PB - LITTLE Brown & co.1991 trade paperback - interiors stained name in the front May 1991 40TH printing this book is been printed over & over again - multiple publishers / editions - great little reading copy white cover stripe on the top edge titling black & white - top corners have been thumbed. Some -minutia - scuffs- W wrinkles-dents- white covers- a great paperback you can put in your back pocket small enough to fit - not pristine.- just acceptable ..however this is sort of part of a particular matched set & this copy would match your set? ...The hero-narrator of THE CATCHER IN THE RYE an ancient child of sixteen, native New Yorker- Holden Caulfield. Through circumstances that tend to preclude adult, , he leaves his prep school in Pennsylvania - goes underground in New York City for three days. The boy himself is at once too simple & too complex for us to make any final comment about him or his story. Perhaps the safest thing we can say about Holden is that he was born in the world not just strongly attracted to beauty but, almost, hopelessly impaled on it...Multiple voices in novel: children's voices, adult voices, underground voices-but Holden's voice is the most eloquent of all. Transcending his own vernacular- remaining marvelously faithful to it, he issues a perfectly articulated cry of mixed pain & pleasure. However, like most lovers / clowns & poets of the higher orders, he keeps most of the pain to, and for, himself....The pleasure he gives away, or sets aside, with all his heart.- At least you know what you're getting into .
