About This Item

Toronto: Musson Book Company Book. Illus. by Albert D. Blashfield (decorations). Good. Hardcover. 1st thus.. Small octavo. No date (circa 1911). In her foreword, Ms. Farmer informs us that "all the recipes have been thoroughly tested, and not found wanting" (if Fannie Farmer says so, that's good enough for me). Contains recipes and menus for every special occasion imaginable (imaginable in 1911, at any rate, but that was before the self-absorbed and narcissistic rose from whatever depths they inhabited before polluting the Earth's surface), from St. Valentine's spreads to repasts on Dominion Day (if you're a Canadian born after 1982, look it up), and Christmas dinners to children's parties. Green cloth w/gilt spine lettering, white lettering to front cover, tipped-on cover illustration, top edge gilt, illustrated end papers, 240 pages (including index), six half-tone illustrations (frontispiece plus five in-text, as called for in list of illustrations), many Blashfield illustrations throughout of cherubs doing cherubic/catering things, bookseller's stamp (Cloke & Son, Hamilton) to bottom right corner of first end paper. Edgewear, bumped/worn corners/spine ends, a bit of staining to front cover illustration (looks like coffee, but I'm not going to lick it to find out), internal dampstaining to top edges, rear end papers stained with the aforementioned coffee-appearing substance (that I still have no plans to lick), general wear. An uncommon edition of a classic recipe book..
