About This Item

UK,slim 8vo wraps,1st edn thus. [This combined volume first published in UK (London) by Thames & Hudson Ltd.,2002.The images in this volume were first published in two separate volumes, i.e. 'The Cats Gallery of Art' and 'The Cats History of Art' respectively.] FINE. No owner inscrptn and absence of publisher's price - generally believed to be an export copy, which usually precedes the UK trade edn issues/distribution.Bright,crisp,clean,glossy,sharp-cornered, colour pictorial painting illutration of The Arnolfini Marriage by Jan Van Eyck, to front card cover,white-lettered author name and other white-lettered title and publisher's name,a white spine/backstrip,with black-lettered title and capitalised black-lettered lettered author name and publisher's black illustrated colophon to foot of same; rear panel with white background with a centrally placed cat anthropomorphic colour painting illustration of Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and publisher's black illustrated colophon to lower fore-edge corner. Negligible shelf-wear,a tiny bump at head of spine/backstrip – no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges clean without blemish or any foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips, appears unread, other than my own collation. UK,slim 8vo wraps,1st edn thus,6-128pp [paginated] , 63 colour illustrations by Susan Herbert; plus [unpaginated] small b/w illustration to half-title with colour frntis illustration (Cover of the coffin of Tutankhamun) to its reverse, title page, and a spoof anthropomorphic Introduction by Professor Marmalade Katzenboge. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 20+ year-old age age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral softback. It is only the minimal exterior fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading. Despite that,it really is still an exceptional, exemplary copy for its cleanliness and brightness. Want more Susan HERBERT titles? Susan Herbert's innovative and witty feline renderings of famous masterpieces have won her a large admiring public. Her first booK was 'The Cats Gallery of Art' (1990),in which Frans Hals's Laughing Cavalier,da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Botticelli's Birth of Venus, among many other ckassics of the world's great museums, were presented with cats serving as artists' models. This was followed by 'The Cats History of Western Art', which featured endearing feline versions of thirty-two well-known paintings, including another beloved Botticelli masterpiece,Primavera,a dramatic detail from the Cistine Chapel by Michelangelo and a number of popular Impressionist pictures. Thames & Hudson now takes the opportunity to offer both these best-selling books together in one volume that will introduce Susan Herbert's unique paintings to a new generation.
