About This Item
Heinemann, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Hardcover, Heinemann, "First Published 1959" stated on copyright page. Very good hardback with full bound blue cloth boards and gilt lettering to spine. Small gift note dated "March 1/62' on front free endpaper. Boards are in nice condition, with no wear, bumps or fraying. Touch of fading at spine. Binding solid and square. The extremely scarce dust jacket is present though with some small condition problems. Not price clipped, shows original price of "12s 6d" on lower corner of the front flap - also shows some creases at top and bottom corner of the front flap. Some general wear, with wrinkles and tiny chips and closed tears mainly along top edge. Some soiling to white rear panel. Classic young adult adventure story in which four English children explore a cave and discover a secret underground Roman city. This title was later published in the United States as The End of the Tunnel. A genuinely scarce title in any condition, and not often seen both with no library markings AND with a dust jacket - much less a jacket in this nice of condition. A choice item for the collector interested in Young Adult, Lost Civilizations, Underground Cities, Caves, etc.
