Small signed ownership label on front endpaper bearing the signature of J. S. Rumsey, Chicago; light edge-wear. Although Lord Lytton (1803-1873) the English novelist and secretary for the colonies never visited Australia, he included Australian episodes in this novel that was first published in 1849.
The signature is possibly that of Julian Sidney Rumsey (1823-1886) who was the Republican Mayor of Chicago in the early 1860s.
