About This Item

Chapel Hill, North Carolina: University of North Carolina Press, 1950. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. One of the "John Calvin McNair Lectures,'' this groundbreaking work by a distinguished biologist links his discipline with that of psychology to advance the theory that "the loftiest manifestations of the human spirit have evolved in unbroken progression from the creative urge of protoplasm." Intelligent & stimulating, but accessible to the lay reader. A FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1950, this hardcover has green cloth over boards lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is Near Fine: part of a professor's estate, it is completely clean & bright, binding straight & strong, both hinges secure, pages mildly tanned, heavier around edges, but completely supple. NO writing or underlining or highlighting; not ex-lib, but previous owner did add his own library card pocket inside back cover. Only other flaw is mild tanning to top edges all around. The unclipped DJ is also Near Fine, with very mild edgewear & significant tanning to top edge & spine. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm weekdays (PST) ship same day; weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
