About This Item
Tehran, Sahab Geographic and Drafting Institute, 1961. Second edition, sheet size 48.5 x 68 cm, printed in colours, text in Persian and English, blank verso, folding into publishers colour printed paper wrappers; price stamped on front cover, tape mark to back cover. A legend in the borders lists 218 places of interest in pre-Revolutionary Tehran; Sahabs own premises are identified within a red oval in the right hand part of the map. A first edition was published in 1958. According to the online resource Encyclopaedia Iranica, Sahab Abbas (1921-2000) was encouraged by his father and his teachers to draft maps from a remarkbaly young age: considered by many as the father of modern Persian cartography... he established the SGDI [Sahab Geographic and Drafting Institute] in 1936 and spent the rest of his life expanding it.
