About This Item

New York: E. P. Dutton and Company, 1905. First Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 1905 FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition. Original dark navy cloth, gilt lettering cover & spine, gilt on top edge of text block, bottom & fore-edge of text block untrimmed as issued. The book has minor soiling to covers with usual slight darkening to spine, a horizontal crease mark from EP through page 8 (obviously a production error where the first gathering was creased before being bound into the book), no foxing, cracked paper inside front hinge (but hinge is strong and holding well), overall solid binding, folding map at rear has tear near stub that has cello tape stain (tape long gone). Generally a decent example EXCEPT there is underlining in red ink on several pages (usually just a word or two, but several full lines near the end -- see photos for heaviest underlined pages). The book measures 229mm tall x 145mm, and has 285 pages, 20 b/w photos, folding map, index PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
