About This Item
[1941]. Very good. Hand-drawn theatrical poster (approximately 17" x 27") on stiff cardboard. Solid orange backdrop or coating with black lettering and an image of the Trojan prophetess, Cassandra. This is a handmade theatrical poster for a 1941 production of a three-act play entitled Cassandre, staged by the Cerlce Francais of Harvard University. The Cercle Francais had a long history at Harvard, and from the late 19th century until the 1940's, the club produced French plays for the university community. This particular play was written by the French scholar and one-time Harvard professor, Fernand Baldensperger, under the name of Fernand Baldenne. Given the outbreak of war in Europe, the proceeds of this production were to be used "as a benefit for French relief. "One long crease mark on the verso of the poster that is barely visible on the recto and a 5-inch closed tear at the lower left hand corner. Nevertheless, the poster is fully intact.
