About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1935. Third printing. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo; pp; 212; red cloth, gilt;. Tipped on to the front free fly is a card, "the compliments of Lawrence Richey" Accopanying this book is a letter on White House stationery with envelope, laid in, from Richey dated November 22, 1932. Richey is conveying President Hoover's good wishes and thanks for a previous message of support. Richey appears to have been far more than a confidential secretary. He was later accused of attempting dirty tricks involving the "New Deal" etc. See American Heritage article by Barton J. Bernstein, "Hoovergate", May/June 1992.
