About This Item

"CHARCOAL SKETCHES" - Stories of the Present-Day Negro by Katharine Ayres. 1927 1st edition; The J.W. Burke Company; Georgia. The book contains 11 stories in all - please see the photos for the complete list.

From the Foreword: "In the many stories of the colored folk of the South, the small-town descendants of the faithful servitors of Kentucky's aristocracy, have been somewhat neglected. The kindly, childlike nature, which is their rich heritage, is serving of eloquent portrayal and the author hopes that these 'Charcoal Sketches' will be read in the spirit in which they are written."

Condition:
Some very light soiling to the covers and spine; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are clean and white with the exception of foxing on the front end paper and opposing half title page, and foxing on the rear end paper and pastedown; a rear end paper also has some staining. Overall the book is in very good condition.
