About This Item
GIFTABLE QUALITY- Special Edition-Printed in Switzerland- EXTREMELY TIGHT- Green boards and green endpapers with gilting- Yellow ribbon marker- faux-leather binding, gilt lettering, and decorations on cover and spine, gilt decorative endpapers, silk bookmark tie-. Circa 1976 (undated)-" DROOD is the last of the novels of Dickens, famously unfinished due to his death. One wonders what the final result could have been, but the version that stands is good enough for me. Dickens looks at greed and envy and jealousy here and it's a good read, although I'm sure he would have had a twist somewhere if he had been able to finish it completely. Is the uncle really guilty? Or was there supposed to be more of an outcome along the lines of Our Mutual Friend? The mystery is a mystery. The greater part of this 1911 volume is devoted to some excellent short stories from Dickens, especially MASTER HUMPHREY'S CLOCK. The tale of men who sit around and tell tales, with a moody grandfather's clock holding manuscripts to be read. Oh, I so loved this because of the return of Mr. Pickwick. Tell me some stories, Mr. Pickwick!"-GoldGato
