About This Item

Norman.: University of Oklahoma Press; (1949). New Edition . Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. Second edition, after the 1936 first edition (jacket flap states "Fourth Printing" at top). Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Just a hint of spotting to the foredge of the page block. The price clipped jacket is a little soiled on the rear panel, and a little rubbed at edges. Originally published by Houghton Mifflin, this is the first OU Press edition of this classic of West Texas plains and cattle. Includes illustrations by Harold Bugbee, a note on bibliography and an index; 485 pages. Inscribed by the author: "For X - this record of America's greatest cowman - for a man who appreciates the common sense, the courage and the integrity of the West - from, J. Evetts Halley July 20, 1977". Also a typed letter signed by the author dated August 16, 1977, to the same man is laid in. The letter discusses "some business" between the author and the recipient.
