About This Item
New York: Worthington & Co., 1887. First published in 1841; this was the second novel by Charles Lever (1806-1872)and was immensely popular for its rollicking humour. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of a nice Victorian reprint in a highly decorative binding. Green cloth; cover stamped in black with title, author, and "Library of Select Romances" held by a Greek or Roman seated figure (possibly Athena because she is holding an olive branch). The original two volumes are here bound as one. Clean text; 345 pages and 311 pages. Tiny bit of rub at margins; the front gutter has cracked, but is holding nicely. Second endpaper has notes/signature in both pencil and ink, along with the date 1891. An attractive book that presents well.. Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
