London: Walter Scott, Limited, 1890. The second novel by Lever (1806-1841) was immensely popular and went thrpugh many editions with various publishers well into the Twentieth Century. This is a Fine copy of an attractive Later Printing, with no date indicated. Scott began publishing in 1882, and this book does not date much later than that. Quercus has arbitrarilly assigned 1890 as the possible date. Dark green cloth binding, ruled and nicely blindstamped on the front cover and spine, with gilt titling and highlights. Clean text; vi, 612 pages, with a sixteen-page publisher's catalog in the rear. Frontis illustration in black and white. Possible hints of rub to the tips, but really one of the best copies Quercus has seen.. Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
