Lonbdon: T. Chapman, 1799. First edition. Map. Very good. Single page, engraved, 9 by 13 inches, the image being 8½ by 11 inches, and matter in a 12 by 16 inch mat. Engraved by Foot. Later hand-coloring. Several flattened folds (as published) else a very good copy. The missionary ship Duff, under the command of Captain Wilson, sighted the islands in 1797, naming them for Adm. James Gambier. They are also known as the Mangareva Islands.
