About This Item
London: Smith, Elder & Co. 1908. (hardcover) 333pp. Very good. 8vo. Quarter-bound in blue cloth over polished blue leather backstrip. Spine in six compartments, lettered in gilt. Leather on spine is dried, and is beginning to crackle (if only craquelure had an iota of the sentimental esthetic on book spines as it does on Mona Lisa's face). The leather is notably rubbed at extremities and hinges. Top edge gilt. Marbled EPs. Previous bookseller's mark pasted neatly at foot of front-pastedown. Internally bright and clean. Illustrated throughout with 23 plates. Monochrome frontispiece with protective tissue..
