This book offers a borad overview of the Civil War as it affected the Cherokee Indians. The author examines decision making and tribal leadership, campaigns and soldering among participants on both sides, and elements of civilian life and Reconstruction. Matrilineal descent, clan affiliations, economic distribution, and decentralized government combine to show the Native American reaction to and participation in the war. A clean very presentable copy.
