About This Item
Synopsis
Cherry Ames, Student Nurse is the first of a series of twenty-seven mystery novels published by Grosset & Dunlap between 1943 and 1968. Helen Wells, who also developed the popular Vicki Barr series, wrote the first seven volumes, as well as volumes 17-27. Julie Campbell Tatham, the creator of Trixie Belden, wrote volumes 8-16.The series encouraged young girls to become nurses during WWII, especially reflected in such titles as Cherry Ames, Army Nurse (1944), Cherry Ames, Flight Nurse (1945) and Cherry Ames, Veterans' Nurse (1946). The series inspired a few spinoffs, and even a Parker Brothers board game.
