About This Item
Kodansha International, publishers, Tokyo - first edition 1988 hardcover, 6¼" x 8½", with dust jacket AS NEW book in AS NEW unclipped dust jacket Here is the early autobiography of one of Japan's greatest writers, Jun'ichiro Tanizaki. While the reader may have no way of knowing how accurate or truthful some of Tanizaki's recollections may be (perhaps they reveal more of the man in his seventies), in some instances the little Jun'ichiro portrayed in this memoir is an unnaturally precocious child. As in his fiction, Tanizaki depicts dangerous, destructive females here (geishas, harlots) and other erotic concerns, including unflattering aspects of his own character. Fascinating.
