London: Country Life, 1908. 1st edition. Cloth. Good. 1st edition, 1908. Good+. 8vo., 110 pp., with 106 black & white illustrations. Bound in publishers green cloth with titles in gilt on front cover and spine. SIGNED. Covers are unevenly faded, spine is darkened, tips are rubbed. Interior is clean and unmarked except for some occasional foxing, some signatures unopened - especially towards the end of the book. A scarce title with two author signatures. Gift card pasted inside front cover from Jekyll, Munstead Wood, Godalming, dated June 7, 1908.
Munstead Wood was the home of Gertrude Jekyll
and was designed by a young Edwin Lutyens and constructed from bargate stone and other local materials. Miss Jekyll incorporated many of her own ideas into the design, all of which add to its charm. It was completed in 1897.
Jekyll signature also on half title page, dated 1908.
Both card and inscription to the Bouverie family, this book from their estate.
