New York: Harper and Brothers, 1939. First Edition. Octavo. 769pp., (2) pp. describing The Harper Prize Novel Contest which the author had won. This contest was held every other year. This is the story of the Mormons, their strange beginnings, rapid growth, persecution and heroism, their amazing mass migration across trackless Western plains. It is written in terms of two dominating figures--Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. A near fine copy bound in 1/4 yellow cloth over brown cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt over black, in a very good unclipped pictorial dust jacket with chipping and wear to corners and spine ends, and wear and small chips to edges.
