Toronto: Thomas Nelson & Sons The first 17 numbers of the series, no dates but circa 1915. 9 5/16" H, paper covers in shades of green, blue and khaki. Stated on each front cover: "Recommended by the Minister of Education for use in the Public and separate School Libraries of Ontario." Profusely illustrated in b&w with maps, battle plans, drawings, photographs and reproductions. Paging runs continuously from Number 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 (320 pages per grouping) and up to page 128 for Numbers 16-17 (1,088 pages in total). Begins with background information on European history, including Napoleon and the politics and players following his era. All manner of military subjects are touched on, from diagrams of floating mines, flag signalling, Commonwealth participants, battles, Victoria Cross winners, the war at sea, trench warfare, the big guns, the Japanese invasion of China, the Middle East, submarine warfare,and the Lusitania, concluding with the Fall of Przemysl in 1915. Interiors - light browning to the pages - mostly in the margins, four vols. have a soft bump to the top corner of the pages. Exteriors - four vols. have a soft bump at the top corner, light fading to the colour on some spines, spines have light wrinkling, all vols. have small pieces missing and wear at the bottom of the spine - one vol. is bumped, some vols. have light browning at the edges of the covers, a few vols. have a corner crease on covers, one vol. has a previous owner's name in ink and an old price sticker on the front cover, one vol. has a tiny scuff on the front cover.. Not Signed. Soft Covers. Good+.
