About This Item
The Chimes is the second of Dickens's "Christmas Books." Written in 1844 it came a year after A Christmas Carol and a year before The Cricket on the Hearth. Set on a New Year's Eve, The Chimes is a story about self-respect and the consequences of our choices. The main character, Trotty Veck is an inverse of sorts to A Christmas Carol's Ebeneezer Scrooge. He is poor and thinks so little of himself that he threatens to destroy himself and his family. Only through supernatural intervention can things hope to be set right
The Platt & Peck Co, New York. Stated: Copyright 1908, by The Baker and Taylor Company. Published, October 1908. As written in the Christmas Stories By Charles Dickens wwith Illustrations in colour and lines by George Alfred Williams.
Very good copy in the original decorated gilt-blocked pictorial cloth. Color illustration pasted on front board is in excellant condition, Frontis port with tissue guard (same as front illustration) bright and clean. Book is in remarkable condition, tight, clean, colors still brilliant. Very slight shelf wear to corners. Very slight pulling of the spine at top, as in a few inches, otherwise nice and tight. Very good copy.
