About This Item
London: Limited Editions Club, 1931. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Rackham, Arthur. A lovely early LEC edition of Dickens' second Christmas book, illustrated and signed by Arthur Rackham. Although popular when published, "The Chimes" has since been overshadowed by the "Christmas Carol". Contemporary critics were divided over the book's moral message, with some considering it dangerously radical. Slight wear to the slipcase, with an "8" (the number assigned to this copy on the limitation page) written on the spine of the slipcase. Spine darkened as usual. The gilt on the goblin's hats/bells, as well as the top edge, is bright. Illustrated covers with beveled edges, illustrated endpapers and pages are all clean and unmarked. [xxxvi], 128, [2]pp. 12.25 x 8.25". As a larger book this order will be carefully packed and may incur additional shipping charges.
Synopsis
