About This Item

Glasgow: James Brown & Son, 1914. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A smart first edition of this illustrated historical work on shipping. First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-one images across sixteen plates, and ten plans. Collated complete. A detailed historical commentary on shipping, with records of the "most perfect" type of sailing ship at the very height of its development. Includes chapters on The Falcon, Sea Witch, The Staghound, Nightingale, Stornoway, and more. This book was an inspiration for All the Tea in China by Kyril Bonfiglioli. Written by Alfred Basil Lubbock, a British historian, sailor and soldier. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the endpapers. Very Good
