About This Item

London.: Thames and Hudson.. 1975.. Maps, 320pp, notes, index, bibliography, glossary, hardback, price-clipped and little faded dustjacket, top edge lightly foxed, a good, internally clean copy. The author concentrates on modern Chinese relations with Inner Asia and for this purpose he devotes the first part of his book to Ming China's contacts with Mongolia, Manchuria and Central Asia from the early years of the dynasty onwards. In part two he discusses the Russian advance along the Amur River, and the Sino-Russian conflicts and compromises which began in the mid-17th century and culminated in the Treaty of Kiakhta (1728).
