About This Item
The Hague and Bandung: W. Van Hoeve Ltd, 1956. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition in English of this second Judge Dee mystery, preceding the UK edition (Michael Joseph) by 6 years. Vincent Starrett's copy with his autograph and dated in 1957 on the half title page. Near fine with slightly dust top edge in like jacket, with some tanning to the spine and light edge wear. Present is the very scarce promotional, wraparound band with quote from Agatha Christie, and which sows some light rubbing. Wonderful copy.
