Wang Lan was one of Taiwan's senior men of letters, as well as a reknowned watercolorist. His most widely known novel, The Blue and the Black, published in 1958, was translated into many languages, including English, and adapted for film and stage. His watercolors are held in numerous collections. Born in China in 1922, he fought against both the Japanese and later the Communists, eventually going to Taiwan.
