NY: George H. Doran Company. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1922. First Edition. Hardcover. Yellow cloth spine over orange boards titled in gilt and black. First edition of 2000 copies preceding Heinemann's London edition. Pencilled word to p. 225 and p. 171. Board edges rubbed, spine ends softened. Mesh visible p. 176, front hinge a bit tender. Pages holding well. The DJ in mylar has sunned spine, a few splash water marks to front panel, trace edgewear. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
Synopsis
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He trained as a doctor in London where he started writing his first novels. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.
