London: Heinemann, 1922. First Edition. Cloth . Good/No Jacket. First UK edition, missing dustjacket. Octavo withslightly cocked spine and worn at edges and spine ridges. Gold stamped lettering and decorative tree on spine. Front cover shows Pegasus 3 times between title and author,all in gold. Deckled fore-edge. A few grey streaks of discoloration on front panel. Newton Hall, Cambridge bookplate affixed to front pastedown. Heavily tanned front and rear free end pages. [237 pages.]
Synopsis
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He trained as a doctor in London where he started writing his first novels. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.
