Scholarly study of life in a rural, agrarian Chinese village.The author, born in the village, was educated and became a teacher in China before the war, during which he obtained his MS and PhD at Cornell, later studying anthropology at Columbia before being instructed by the Chinese government to study the Extension system of the USDA to aid China's rural development. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured; stated third printing two years after the first. Light wear & tiny stains to book; jacket shows some tanning & light chipping, short tear; small stain & hole (a manufacturing defect) to free endsheet.
