About This Item

This is a beautifully bound copy of "CHRIST IN SONG ~ Hymns of Immanuel." 1869; Anson D.F. Randolph; New York. Nicely bound with gilt lettering and decorations on the covers and spine, and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. The poems are grouped into the following categories: The Advent; The Incarnation; The Infant Saviour with the Virgin Mother; The Epiphany; Christ's Life and Example; The Passion; The Burial of Christ; The Resurrection; The Ascension; Christ in Glory; Christ Judging the World; The Love and Loveliness of Christ; Christ Our Refuge and Strength; Christ Our Peace; Faith in Christ; Union with Christ; The Holy Communion; Love and Gratitude to Christ; For Ever with Christ; Praise and Adoration of Christ.

From the Preface: "A complete and carefully selected Lyra Christologica, embracing the choicest hymns on the Person and Work of our Lord from all ages, denominations, and tongues, must be welcome to every lover of sacred poetry. Such a work is here attempted from the best hymnological sources. A large proportion of the poems are translations or transfusions from the Greek, Latin, and German; with a few from other languages. The English hymns are nearly all given, as they came from the inspiration of the poet, without omission or alteration."

Condition:
Clean covers and spine. Small cloth tears at the top edge of the spine, and at the cover corners. The bottom edge of the spine is worn down. Bright gilt lettering and decorations on the covers and spine, and to all edges of the text block. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is an inoffensive crack at the front hinge between the end paper and pastedown. Nice interior - the pages are lightly age-toned and clean with no notable issues found. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition.
