About This Item

London: Geoffrey Bles / The Bodley Head, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956. British First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Pauline Baynes. BRITISH FIRST EDITION. 7 VOLUME COMPLETE SET IN DUST WRAPPERS. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. According to a list on Wikipedia, the first Narnia book, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, is the seventh best selling book in history. All books in this set are first editions and first printings. The books and dust wrappers are at least very good. Please see details below.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. London: Geoffrey Bles, 1950. Light discoloration on boards and spine. An owner's printed book plate inside the front cover. No other writing in the book. The dust wrapper is not price clipped and has just a modest amount of edge wear along the top. Very nice copy.

Prince Caspian. London: Geoffrey Bles, 1951. The book is near fine with a touch of foxing on one end sheet but virtually no wear. No writing or ownership marks in the book. The dust wrapper is not price clipped and in VG condition with some edge wear.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. London: Geoffrey Bles, 1952. Book and dust wrapper are VG. The second blank leaf of the book has a large high school price label adhered to the page. The label has writing but there is no other writing. The unclipped dust wrapper has light soiling on the back and some edge wear at the spine and back. Quite a nice wrapper.

The Silver Chair. London: Geoffrey Bles, 1953. Because this is often the toughest Narnia book to find, it is frequently in lesser condition when found in sets. But this copy is marvelous. The book is near fine with very little wear and a tight binding. The first front end paper has a bit of browning from acidic paper. The dust wrapper is not price clipped and has a slightly faded spine.

The Horse and His Boy. London: Geoffrey Bles, 1954. The half title page has a gift inscription. First front end paper has some browning from acidic paper. The dust wrapper is not price clipped. Its condition is very nice with just some edge wear at the top.

The Magician's Nephew. London: The Bodley Head, 1955. The book is in marvelous condition but there is a gift inscription on the first front end paper. The dust wrapper is price clipped and has browning on the spine and back. A closed tear of 3/4" on the top.

The Last Battle. London: The Bodley Head, 1956. The book is nearly fine with just a faint smudge on the fore edge. The dust wrapper is not price clipped and has almost no wear. The back of the wrapper is lightly soiled.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe are the only two first edition books which possess frontispieces in color. They were printed separately and inserted and therefore they are usually on paper which is whiter than the paper of the text. One would be hard pressed to find a nicer set of these classic children's stories from C. S. Lewis. Shelley and Son Books specializes in C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien & the Inklings. Full refund if not satisfied.
