(London: Warne: no date) Suggest 1890s? Decorated cloth, partly gilt (that is, hard covers) pp. xvi, 84 plus an advertisement at the rear. Illustrated in colour (the title-page erroneously says 'sixteen full-page colour illustrations' but in fact only eleven of the fifteen listed are so, while four of the plates listed are not in colour, and all are additional to the pagination) and in black and white. The text cover such topics as: Symbols and Emblems; Monograms of Our Saviour's Name; Symbols of the Evangelists and Apostles, etc.; the 'Practical Instructions' embrace Wreaths, Lettering, Texts, Borders, Shields, Scrolls, Trellis and Diaper Work, Gilding, Oil Colours, Water Colours, Distemper Colours, Brushes, Stencilling, etc. An old ownership signature on the half-title page and repeated on the blank p. xv. An old antique shop stamp at head of front free endpaper. Head and foot of spine rubbed; corners and lower edges of boards rubbed, the lower corners worn; internal hinges split or splitting; a very good copy.
