About This Item

Köln (Cologne), Germany: Könemann, 1998. This handsome, beautifully illustrated book traces the history of the cigar from its Caribbean roots to the high-class brands admired by connisseurs worldwide. The development of the Havana, before and after the 1959 Cuban Revolution, is especially emphasized. Originally published in France in 1956, this is the first English language edition, translated from the French by Dr. John Crook and edited by Sharon Herson. The book includes the complete "number line" ending in a "1" to indicate First Printing. The book is bound in a brown cloth with die-stamped gilt titles on the front panel and spine. The dust jacket is also in Fine condition. I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. This oversized book is lavishly filled with color and black and white photographs and period drawings. The book measures 9 1/8 by 12 1/4 inches and includes 228 pages, with Index. NOTE: There will no additional shipping charges adjusted for domestic Media Mail shipping. However, due to the book's size and weight, there is no inexpensive way to mail it abroad. Thus, Priority International shipping to Europe and elsewhere will be adjusted to total $45.00. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. Illus. by Jacque Boulay, Patricia Canino,, Karine Veyrunes, Photographers. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
