Newburyport, MA: The Call of the Calliope, 1956. 12mo. pamphlet published by The Call of the Calliope, the world's only all-circus monthly magazine. Fine copy. Contains a short log of the circus' season, which seems to have been plagued by disasters. Also has programs for the New York performance and for the road show.

McLoughlin Bros, Inc, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair Dust Jacket. This old book with dust jacket is clean, solid and in great shape! This is a hardcover book with 308 pages including many circus photos. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The pages are clean with no soiling, writing, or tears. The copyright page shows 1938 as the published date. The dust jacket is about 94% intact with chipping on the top and bottom of the spine and along the DJ fore edge, the front inside DJ flap is missing. There is also heavy edgewear. I have placed the DJ in a fresh mylar jacket. We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

Faint binding edgewear; rear inner hinge expertly, archivally mended, thus tight; jacket lightly edgeworn and quite rubbed, but complete and overall fairly attractive. A tight and nice first edition of this behind-the-scenes Big Top chronicle, with binding and gilt a-gleaming. Rather uncommon.

The Mutual Orange Distributors (MOD) was founded in Redlands, California, in 1906 as a cooperative marketing association representing citrus growers in California. Within a few years, the coop included citrus growers in western Arizona. In 1955, MOD changed its name to Pure Gold, originally the brand name for fruit grown by the approximately 2,500 MOD growers. Sunkist took over the Pure Gold trademark when the co-op closed in 1987 due to housing developments replacing the citrus fields and the shrinking number of packing plants. This booklet explains the history of the citrus-growing culture in California and Arizona and provides information on the variety of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit grown and their cultivation and packaging. A map on the back shows the regions represented by the Pure Gold cooperative. Scarce, none located in OCLC. B&w illustrations and halftone photographs. (11"x8-1/2")

Adams was born to Nathaniel Dickinson Adams and Harriet (Hastings) Adams in Shutesbury, Massachusetts. On his mother's side, he was a descendant of Thomas Hastings who came from the East Anglia region of England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1634.[1] Adams received his early training in the Amherst, Massachusetts public schools and Phillips Exeter Academy. He graduated from Amherst College in 1872. In 1873 Adams traveled to Europe to study and write. In 1874 he then moved to Heidelberg, Germany to pursue the Ph.D. degree. There he was influenced by Johann Gustav Droysen and Johann Kaspar Bluntschli, the latter also becoming his mentor.
