About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, 1937. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. New York: Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, 1937. From the dustjacket: "A great novel about a doctor by a doctor who is a great novelist." This is the story of a young physician, and it portrays his career through the vicissitudes of success and failure, happiness and sorrow. Dr. Cronin's novel is a scathing indictment of certain aspects of the medical profession. With all its exciting and dramatic incidents, the novel emerges as a searing, soul-searching account of a man who tried to be a good doctor but thought it didn't pay. 401 pages. Dark green dust jacket with black horizontal bands of varying widths and white lettering on front cover and spine. Back cover is devoted to promoting the publishers most recent bestsellers. Inside back flap promotes A.J. Cronin's other book Hatter's Castle. Dust jacket chipped and worn on the corners, along the edges and on the spine tips. Otherwise intact although showing its age. Light green boards with black lettering on spine and front cover, slightly bumped at spine tips. Deckled side edge. Interior pages clean, unmakrked, good binding. Nice collectible.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

What a GREAT read. I have become a fan of AJ Cronin and am in the process of acquiring as many of his novels as I can. Each one is riveting and holds your attention. The descriptions and pictures that Cronin painted in each chapter continue to hold you ... and want you to keep reading. Its amazing .... The Citadel was first published in 1939 ... and here it is 2010 and I'm a first time reader of the book and finding it just a great read ....

About Kukuchai Books
Kukuchai Books has been selling books on-line since December 2004. It has been both an adventure and a pleasure to send my books half-way around the world in every direction. An adventure because my books have traveled farther than I ever will. Through their travels I have imagined flying to Japan or Australia or boarding a ship for South Africa. And a pleasure when I receive an e-mail thanking me for a book remembered from childhood or a replacement for a very precious, lost book.Kukuchai Books will continue to provide books for your reading and collecting enjoyment. I specialize in Literature, Collectible, Vintage, and hard-to-find volumes.
