About This Item
New York: Random House, 2000. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. In something of a departure from his historically-based novels, the award-winning Doctorow sets this book in contemporary New York City and sets three people, a writer, the maverick rector of an Episcopal Church, and the young woman rabbi who leads the Synagogue for Evolutionary Judaism, the task of learning who stole a large brass cross from the church and placed it on the roof of the synagogue. The trio investigates a wide-ranging cast of suspects, including scientists, war veterans, Holocaust survivors, cabinet members, theologians, film makers and crooners in what becomes a quest for true spirituality; a collectable copy in like dustjacket.
