About This Item
Leeds: Leeds Education Committee, 1931. Handwritten. Very Good. Soft cover. Manuscript. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. This is the class record book of a Miss Edna Brown from Leeds that outlines her lesson plans throughout the year in some detail, all handwritten by Miss Brown herself. From the content within the book and the cover, it can safely be assumed that Miss Brown taught at an infants school, with her pupils being around 4 or 5 years old, as the lesson plans include details on basic reading and arithmetic, as well as singing games and 'simple dances'. This also includes a design for an embroidered handkerchief case, designed by Miss Brown, as well as the finished specimen. It is unclear as to whether she used this in her classes, however it seems likely as embroidery is outlined as an activity, so perhaps she made this as an example for her pupils or for assessment. Overall, this is a rare insight into the history of pre world war II education from a teacher's point of view, so is not to be missed by students of modern history..
